GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

contributions can include:

  • Short-form theory essays

BOOK REVIEWS and REVIEW ESSAYS

Reviews for ATC can focus either on anthropology texts (ethnographies / edited volumes) or books of “theory” (continental philosophy; political economy; literary theory; etc). We request, in keeping with the theme of ATC, that reviews focus on the theoretical contributions of a text and how they apply to anthropology. Pitches should include articulations of ideas to those ends: what you think this book can teach readers about anthropological theory broadly (with caveat that, understandably, you will likely not have those connections perfectly mapped during the time of the pitch). Books should be published within the last three years.

SHORT-FORM THEORY ESSAYS

Pieces should have a rigorous theoretical argument that engages in a specific theoretical discussion. The pieces should be succinct (1.000 – 2,000 words, including endnotes, excluding references). Pieces can be theoretically, epistemologically, or empirically oriented. If based on empirical data, the argument should be supported by one/two brief empirical illustrations, but always emphasizing what it is the theoretical contribution of the piece, with which debates is engaging, and how it helps moving them further.

Please, send the piece in a single word file, to at.anthropologicaltheory@gmail.com, including:

– short bios (research interests, academic affiliation, recent publications if any) per contributor (50-70 words per bio).

– 3-5 keywords per piece
